About
House 1888 is a small atelier making dogwear for sighthounds: whippets, greyhounds, lurchers and Italians. It was begun by people who lived with these dogs and were tired of buying things that did not fit them. A sighthound has a neck wider than its head, a ribcage deeper than most, a waist that disappears, and a coat thin enough that a January walk is genuinely cold. Nothing on the shelf was cut for that body, so we started making the pieces ourselves.
What we make
The house is organised as four rooms. Car Beds for the journey. Collars and leashes for the walk. Clothes for the weather. Boots for the ground. Each piece is designed around the sighthound skeleton: a longer back, a deeper chest opening, a narrower waist than any generic “medium”.
How it is made
By hand, piece by piece, in small runs. We cut and stitch to order rather than pulling from a warehouse. Materials are chosen to age well rather than to photograph well on day one: full-grain leather, solid brass hardware that will not pit, virgin wool and woven boucle. Small runs are numbered.
Where
Everything is designed and made in Lithuania. Made with care, at home, and sent from here.
Why 1888
1888 is the year the whippet breed was first registered. The house takes its name from that date: the year the quick dog became official.
